We finally got one on January 29th, 2009, after 8 years of Howdy Doody.
It's an amazing book, written incredibly well, the only direction the movie can take it is down.

“the new digg ads are a sensible approach. they are unobstrusive and potentially interesting. i also click on google ads when shopping etc. its rich-media normal ads that are horrendous (such as on rupert murdoch sites). it makes me wonder if the ad industry have their business model set for old media and have got the internet ad model wrong

I use http://www.bing-vs-google.com as my default search. It's fantastic. Gives you results from both search engines and YOU decide what's right. Pretty nifty. I think I found it here on Digg a while back, actually..
Economic ramifications of the decline of new builds aside... the LAST thing we need in this country are more new homes. Houses are such a waste of space and in general encourage sprawl. Id like to see a tax penalty for house buers and a credit for condo/townhouse/apartment *buyers*.Less sprawl, more urban development and revitalization.Ok you can dig me down now.!

I used to operate a Nuclear Reactor (directly control), at the Hanford Nuclear Reservationto produce plutonium for the DOE.It was a graphite moderated type, as was the Chernobyl reactor. When Chernobyl went up, we went down. While there are all kinds of new reactor designs on paper, The first thing I noticed in the article was the mention of it's use of helium as a coolant. We are running out of helium, there is only one source of helium which used to be controlled by the Government; as the WWII production reactors used helium as an inert atmosphere within the reactor, not as a coolant. It wouldn't be wise to rely upon a limited supply of helium as a coolant for a reactor, in any long term investment.Google: helium shortage - first hit (Wired) is a good one.The Pebble bed reactor as mentioned at the beginning of this thread is the most likely design to be produced in the U.S. (China is already constructing them), and can use other gases as a coolant.FWIW: google earth:46°41'00.62" N, 119°30'12.00" W (all one line, and search)You need to zoom out of course, but that's the Hanford Nuclear Reservation, the first Grey site in the lower left is B-Reactor the first production reactor ever built. and now a historic site. I operated the third one up on the left, N-Reactor. These are old pictures as all but B reactor have been disassembled, the reactors themselves being entombed, or buried. As for sent fuel elements, they are still stored there. There was one plan of creating a religion, it's purpose - to pass on to future generations not to dig in the area for 10,000 years (Honest).?
The future! |

There have been times where the wayback machine has definitely saved data that otherwise would have gone poof, forever. Case in point: I was looking for some info on an old synthesizer -- there was a page written by a musician containing a treasure-trove of reverse-engineered info he'd compiled over the years including ZIP archives of undocumented system-exclusive messages and file/disk formats.. unbeknownst to him, the archives on his server had become corrupted about a year before I visited. This info was NOWHERE else on the net since he wrote it all himself, and he'd not backed the files up (yes, stupid on his part).Anyway, long story short, the wayback machine had archived his intact ZIP files, which I helpfully emailed to him and he repaired his site :). Yes, he should have backed up his site, but he didn't, and the knowledge would have been lost forever otherwise. If you're so against the internet archive, I sincerely hope you never write anything useful on your site so no one depends on it.

yeah, because as we all know, eating fatty food makes you have high body fat.that must be why eskimos (diet almost entirely fat and protein) have all those same problems. oh wait, they don't.btw egyptians used to be known as the "bread-eaters". a carbohydrate-based (i.e., agriculture-based) diet was the cause of their (and our) obesity, dental and cardiovascular problems.and you can still blame it on McDonalds, ftl.

For me, reading magazines is something you do in an airplane. Can you imagine when in-flight Internet gets universal? |
