"Insufficient proof of loss"?I kept repeating that in my head a few times, because I couldn't quite fathom anyone having the balls to say this to a mother that just lost her daughter to a murderer. One would be inconsolable as it was, and to add such insult to injury is not something I should think AFLAC could recover from easily, if not for an out of court settlement of an undetermined amount...I would advise the family to take them to court, so this doesn't happen again to anyone else.

GEICO is no better. I had a new car stolen that I had bought about 3 months before, with only 4K miles on it at the time it was stolen. So that's a full coverage policy. Well GEICO was going to pay the lien holding bank what that year and make vehicle would sell for in the Auto Trader. Auto Trader? I didn't buy the car from Auto Trader and the low mileage qualified the car as "like new".The car was recovered just days before the settlement (which would have netted me a huge loss) but what I learned was that if I had needed to settle, that I could have challenged Geico's choice of valuation of the vehicle and won.So Geico just tries to get away with screwing it's customers as a matter of course, which is the norm for the entire industry. This is what we defend as free market capitalism...Corporations raping the consumers..
There's nothing in the article that said he wasn't fully in control of the vehicle. In fact, after 9 hours of driving around unfamiliar territory without incident, I'm more confident in his driving skills than those of the average person.!
