It's hard for the consumers to find out about the work conditions in the factories of all goods they buy. Also it's hard to vote with your cash when pretty much everyone is doing it.I would happily pay more if I knew the workers had fair conditions, and workplaces free from tyranny, violence and god knows what else.
Paul funded TechTV, without him it never would have happened. Get well soon!

“@superkendallI agree with you for the most part. But, one problem here is that a lot of the ports won't allow ships to dock that have guns on board (even if they're locked up) and that's why most ships remain unarmed. That's also why the pirates need very little firepower to take a ship.

For real... although I was assuming they were talking about pornography "production".
This is not going to happen. Capturing and recycling heat is a nice idea in theory, but in a world where all technologies are getting smaller and smaller, this would ad: more weight, more hardware, and more cost for a mostly marginal improvement in efficiency. Any solution with moving parts would also leave a lot of room for breakdowns and wear and tear. I can see the concept being used in a car, but again, it adds too much hardware for only a marginal gain. If we're really moving to electric vehicles we're already going to be dealing with massive and heavy car batteries.!

You can thank Sarbanes-Oxley for the decline in American IPOs:http://online.wsj.com/article/SB122990472028925207 ...Washington Is Killing Silicon Valley ---The new laws and regulations have neither prevented frauds nor instituted fairness. But they have managed to kill the creation of new public companies in the U.S., cripple the venture capital business, and damage entrepreneurship. According to the National Venture Capital Association, in all of 2008 there have been just six companies that have gone public. Compare that with 269 IPOs in 1999, 272 in 1996, and 365 in 1986.Faced with crushing reporting costs if they go public, new companies are instead selling themselves to big, existing corporations. For the last four years it has seemed that every new business plan in Silicon Valley has ended with the statement "And then we sell to Google." The venture capital industry is now underwater, paying out less than it is taking in. Small potential shareholders are denied access to future gains. Power is being ever more centralized in big, established companies. For all of this, we can first thank Sarbanes-Oxley. Cooked up in the wake of accounting scandals earlier this decade, it has essentially killed the creation of new public companies in America, hamstrung the NYSE and Nasdaq (while making the London Stock Exchange rich), and cost U.S. industry more than $200 billion by some estimates.---All this misguided complaining about 'deregulation' is what allows these horrible laws to get passed.?
it's often observed with fast reproducing organisms such as bacteria, however I don't know if this would be truly "speciation"[qoute] "the birds might even return to the fold of their parent species, and merge with them through interbreeding."I was under the impression that speciation is said to have occurred in sexual replicators when they can no longer inter-breed. If these birds can breed with the original group then are they not just a separate breed? close enough to interbreed but far enough to have observable differences.Still always good to see scientific inquiry at work |
