“>If Micro$oft follows through with this, and pushes the full .NET framework out as Open Source, this is a HUGE announcement..Net Framework was open source even before it v1.0 release. Now you can even step in Framework's source code when you debug.P.S. just don't forget the difference between open source(tm) and free software. Just don't listen to the shady Linux PR people trying to confuse you.

people dressed in military garb ***** things up.?
Honestly, I'd rather have Bush back in office than deal with her. Palin winning the presidency in 2012 would pretty much guarantee Armageddon as the rest of the rational world nukes us into oblivion as a precautionary measure.
Australia had a nation wide hyper-link like precursor to the Internet back in 1985. It was based on the pseudo graphical Teletext format (as seen on *old* high end TV sets/gambling venues/etc). Each page had up to ten links embedded in the page (accessed by keys 0 to 9) and 999 pages (accessed by *pagenum# ). The navigational was presumably based on tone phone controls. They had live chat, software downloads and even online banking via gateways. Despite using 1200/75 modems it was much more responsive than much of todays Internet due to it's low bandwidth requirements. The idea of page linking and URL's was well established and in use domestic use well before either the Internet or HyperCard.Ironically it's hard to find information on the Viatel service as it predated the domestic Internet, and the WWW. Still remember it fondly though. Even wrote my own version of the schools BBC Micro network in the late 80's. Just couldn't capture the filelock exceptions between different machines. Darn.
