You've got it mixed up a bit. The technology referenced in the article IS a pebble-bed reactor, or at least a version of one. PBRs don't "automatically cool down", and the fuel pellets certainly don't "move apart". PBRs are inherently safer than traditional reactors, because the reaction is self-modulating. It cannot melt down, because as the heat rises, the reaction slows due to doppler broadening, and the temperature comes back down. It is not possible for the temperature to rise above the melting point of the graphite containers.
Sounds like a good idea, but the cost of doing something like this would be huge and palm would most likely fail. My recommendation to palm is to sell while you can.

There were many layers to it.(Sorry, is this a pun thread or not?)?
I think it's always important for any of us on the Internets to point out if we've already seen something at an earlier time. |

I too have been getting Newsweek for about 30 years. When my subscription runs out next year I will not renew. Too many opinions and not enough news. The magazine look like an advertising supplement. The writing quality is not the same. I think they buy their articles from outside sources. They will be joining all the other magazines that have failed because people don't want to read anymore.

Cheap beef farms use corn-fed livestock. Cheap beef goes into cheap food. So even cheap meat is corn-based. Nasty.

I find this hard to believe. Maybe if you refuse to eat cheap foods. One can subsist off foods like rice and beans for EXTREMELY cheap. Not that it's the best diet in the world. But if your area is like mine just talk to some 'struggling' families. Everyone wants to eat meat and processed meals. Eating like that is expensive! Learn to live within your means people. Food is still cheap and readily available. If you think this is bad go to any country besides a westernized one.I'm sure there are some families who really are struggling to put even cheap food on the table. But I'd be willing to wager that MOST of these families are not spending their money on food that will last. |
