The private sector hasn't even put a man in orbit yet, and it's not because the soviets are hogging all the space toursists. The deman is there, and has been for decades. The private sector has not delivered.

Because lord knows I spend hours and hours per day checking the time on my cell phone.
I felt DAT was relatively out of place on this list. While it might have failed as a consumer product, it's still a common presence in professional settings. While it is finally being replaced by flash memory and dirt cheap hard-disk storage, up until just a few years ago anyone who wanted to do high-quality digital recording in the field essentially had to use DAT. Hard-drive space was still more expensive than an archive of DAT tapes up until not that long ago.
