Are you sure you're only getting 1.6 Mega bits per second down and not 1.6 Mega Bytes Per Second down? Because 1.6MBps would be just shy of 16Mbps...Note the difference in Mbps and MBps - most applications measure your throughput in bytes per second, whereas ISP's advertise their speeds in bits per second. 8 bits to a byte....It's a common confusion. For example: 16Mbits would be the equivalent of 2MBytes.
Thing is though that's the common misconception, we actually do have a choice. It's just that there's not enough people with the balls to act on it. FTR: I'm English, I don't pay federal taxes, it's just that what I'm seeing from over the pond ( and over here ) is utterly unbelievable... it's fraud on a massive scale, in fact so massive that people don't actually want to believe it's happening... they just hide under the covers like nothings going on.

I registered specific website names with Go Daddy some time ago supposedly for a 2 year period. One requirement was to "update" my information every 6 months or so which I did. I had one particular name that was VERY marketable. Well BEFORE the 2 year period I received an e-mail from someone who had purchased MY .com. I ignored the e-mail and made NO offer to repurchase what I "thought" I owned.Well BEFORE the expiration of the 2 year time period a transaction appeared on my credit card statement indicating that Go Daddy had made a charge to my account to renew the few other web sites I "supposedly" owned and had ADDED numerous other site names I never purchased and would NEVER have had an interest in. Instead of a small amount of money required to renew tha names I actually contracted for, they had charged a sum I did NOT owe that was OUTRAGEOUS. The amount of money they took that they were NOT entitled to would have been a FELONY in any state in the country!I immediately contacted Go Daddy and over a period of 10 days or so obtained a FULL refund and ended my association with them FOR ALL TIME!!! They realized, I'm sure, that there was NO WAY they could defend what they had done (after all, NO WAY could they prove I owed money for sites that I never purchased). I warn everyone who wishes to set up a website what happened to me with Go Daddy. I have no clue what someone would do to protect their interest (such as a Copyright or whatever) and manage to keep control of a prosperous website when they seem to be so easily misapproppriated.I will consult with a lawyer to insure that I protect my interest in the future. My advice to everyone...be careful...TRUST NO ONE!! And, make absolutely sure you SAVE and maintained records of EVERY TRANSACTION to the END OF TIME!!?

Last I heard, Somalia doesn't have a government. How can it top the list? It's like saying you're a terrible driver for not owning a car...

The worst part is the consumer doesn't even have the choice to buy from other sources. However, it's important to keep in mind that a boycott is not always the best solution in cases like this. The working conditions are bad, but if they were out of work things would be worse. Either the workers will have to fight for their own rights (which will be tough and take a very long time), or our major corporations will have to demand better conditions for workers of suppliers (which has no business incentive). There is no easy solution here... |
